examples of Gamification (BLOG 7)

Gamification means add some elements of a game in non-game context. This is one of the most common strategies in instructional design. Because games can provide a more collaborative, engaging experience for all students (Edutopla, 2021, 0:09). Attached below are some benefits of gamification during the teaching.

I believed most of students have participated in Kahoot quizzes for many times in the class. During the completion of Kahoot quizzes, Kahoot enable students to earn points based on their accuracy and speed of answering. And allow them to spend the points on rewards. Therefore, students always being excited when they heard that the one who have the highest point can get rewards from professor. That’s why Kahoot quizzes is an example of gamification.

Another typical example that I had before called “Hangman”, it is a guessing game. When I was in elementary and junior high school, my English teacher always insert this game as in-class activity. In this game, we have to try to guess the words that provided by teacher  within a certain number of guesses. According to research, students’ mastery in understanding the meaning of words, spelling pronouncing the words and using the words can be improved (Novriana, 2013)

  1. Hi Andy. Thank you for your post. I agree with you very much. Kahoot is a very good example of gamification teaching. When I use Kahoot for the first time in class, I am very happy every time I get the first point, even if there is no reward. Another example you provided, “Hangman”, is also a very classic game, which can be a great help in gamification teaching.
