the benefits of ”SAMR” (Blog-5)

In a video about the Visual Note-taking, Frenzy (2012) explained that “Sketchnoting can enhance memory and retention of information; Visual note-taking improves understanding of the lesson; more fun the text”. Therefore, I am going to create a sketchnote about “The Benefits of SAME model”

(Below is the sketchnote that I created.)

SAMR model is developed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura. The letter of “SAMR” stand for Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. This is a framework that can categorize teacher’s uses of classroom technology into four different degrees (Akcaoglu et al, 2016). The purpose of it is encourages teachers to “move up” their levels of teaching with technology (Akcaoglu et al, 2016).  In this model, educators can evaluate how they are incorporating technology into the class, across a range of assignments and activities (Hitchcock, 2018). Therefore, there are 3 main benefits by using SAMR model:

  • 1) The digital literacy promoted during the transformation of assignments and learning activities (Hitchcock, 2018).
  • 2) Giving the educator the opportunity to test new technology tools (Hitchcock, 2018).
  • 3) Educators’ teaching enhanced to a higher level. (Akcaoglu et al, 2016)

  1. Hi Andy. Thank you for your post. Your sketchnote summarizes the content of SAMR very well. I think it would be better if you could introduce Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition. And you mentioned that there are several advantages of using the SAMR model. I think it would be better if you can explain it with examples in daily life.
