Does AR can be applied to multi-media teaching? This is a question that I never think about before. Because in my cognition, I thought AR only can be used in app development or game. Thus, after watching the video from Matt Bower I was shocked. Even though I already have a strong feeling about our classroom have a great possibility will be changed to a classroom with so many advanced technical equipments in the future. I never realized that AR can be used in the Education as well, and it can bring lots of positive effects during learning and teaching.
“Kids love AR simulations because they are like real-life video games. Teachers love them because they can differentiate instruction (Mitchell & DeBay, 2012, p 16)”.

There is a study about investigating the advantages of AR in educational settings shows that “AR [can] helps students to engage in authentic explorations in the real world. [Which means students can] observe events that is not easily be observed with the naked eye [by displayed virtual elements. Combining with physical objects], it increase students’ motivation and help them [learn better]” (Akçayır et al, 2012). This remind me those basic multimedia learning theories that I learned previously. Imagine that if teachers can use AR tool during teaching, does that mean students are easier to understand the content through rich visual images and learn better?
(Below is an example about how AR tool can help students study human anatomy)
On the other hand, “as AR enable teachers to show virtual examples of concepts and add gaming elements to provide textbook material support. Classroom education can be extraordinary and more interactive” (Sinha, 2021).
In conclusion, by reading literature and watching videos, it is not hard to see that students adopted a positive attitude in their study toward AR activities and AR enhanced the learning achievements of students.

Hi Andy. Thank you for your post. I very much agree with your point of view, and I think you are very straightforward in explaining the advantages of AR technology in multimedia teaching. Students take a positive attitude towards AR activities in their studies, and AR improves students’ academic performance.
